Thailand on the Global MICE Map: Building a World-Class Hub through TMVS and AMVS

Choosing a MICE venue involves far more than appearance, room size or capacity. Organisers must also consider infrastructure, technology, service quality, safety, accessibility and sustainability, as each of these elements directly shapes event quality and the overall participant experience.

Choosing a MICE venue involves far more than appearance, room size or capacity. Organisers must also consider infrastructure, technology, service quality, safety, accessibility and sustainability, as each of these elements directly shapes event quality and the overall participant experience.

The Thailand MICE Venue Standard, or TMVS, therefore provides an important framework for assessing venue readiness systematically and giving organisers confidence that certified venues and event spaces meet clearly defined criteria. At the same time, stronger connections between certified venues and event organisers in Thailand and across ASEAN help enhance the competitiveness of MICE operators and support Thailand's development as a high-quality and sustainable MICE destination in the region.

Three Venue Categories for Every Type of MICE Event

MICE venues under the standards are grouped into three main categories, helping organisers identify spaces that best match the format and requirements of their events.

Meeting Rooms

This category covers meeting facilities in hotels, convention centres, universities, organisations and other venues, ranging from smaller rooms for focused meetings to ballrooms and auditoriums capable of accommodating large audiences.

Exhibition Venues

These include halls and large event spaces designed for trade exhibitions, industry events, major conferences and activities requiring exhibition systems, staging, lighting, sound or dedicated areas for equipment loading and logistics.

Special Event Venues

This category encompasses venues that provide experiences beyond a conventional meeting room, including gardens, museums, sports venues, waterfront spaces, cultural attractions, shopping centres and outdoor areas. They can be used for receptions, corporate activities, performances and a wide range of experiential programmes.

This classification helps organisers begin their venue search more efficiently. They can first determine whether an event requires a meeting room, exhibition hall or special event space, before comparing capacity, location, functionality and available services.

How TMVS and AMVS Support Event Organisers

TMVS was developed by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, or TCEB, to establish consistent standards for event venues across the country. Assessments cover physical facilities, technology, service and sustainability practices. Certified venues are included in the standard venue directory, enabling organisers to review essential information such as space dimensions, room configurations, capacity, equipment and certification periods before contacting venues directly.

The ASEAN MICE Venue Standard, or AMVS, operates at the regional level and further strengthens confidence in venues equipped to accommodate international organisers and participants.

Across Thailand, TMVS certification covers 342 meeting venues comprising 1,143 meeting rooms, 20 exhibition venues with a total of 32 halls, and 70 special event venues comprising 72 event spaces.

At ASEAN level, certification covers 94 meeting venues, 12 exhibition venues and 14 special event venues. These figures illustrate that Thailand's MICE readiness extends beyond Bangkok to major cities in every region of the country.

From a Venue Directory to More Confident Decision Making

TMVS and AMVS are more than certification marks. They provide organisers with a structured starting point for comparing venues, beginning with the choice between a meeting room, exhibition venue or special event venue, before considering participant numbers, location, technology, service and sustainability requirements.

Thailand's strength therefore lies not only in a handful of large venues, but in a nationwide network of certified facilities capable of supporting events of different sizes, formats and experiential requirements. This network forms an important foundation for building organiser confidence and advancing Thailand's position as a global MICE destination.

Over the years, TCEB has promoted the adoption of relevant standards, including TMVS, TSEMS and AMVS, among MICE establishments nationwide to raise venue quality in infrastructure, technology, safety, management and sustainability. These standards help strengthen organiser confidence while enhancing Thailand's competitiveness in the international MICE market.

To connect standards more directly with business opportunities, TCEB also introduced the MICE Standards Promotional Campaign under the Standards-to-Market concept. The initiative promotes MICE standards, expands professional networks and facilitates business matching between certified venues and potential organisers, buyers and organisations.

Through the programme, participating operators joined Thailand HR Tech Conference & Exposition 2026, giving them direct access to decision makers and opportunities to present the capabilities of their venues through Business Matching with private sector organisations, professional associations, meeting and seminar organisers, event management companies, government agencies and international buyers.

The programme's results reflect growing awareness and recognition of TMVS, TSEMS and AMVS, particularly among organisations that place importance on quality, safety, ESG and sustainability. At the same time, participating operators have opportunities to strengthen their credibility, broaden their customer base and gain greater access to national and international events.

This approach reflects TCEB's role in connecting standards with business opportunities while strengthening Thailand's potential as a sustainable hub for quality meetings, exhibitions and trade shows across ASEAN and the international market.
